Meet Saya, the super realistic CGI schoolgirl
CGI has come a long way in the last few years. Not just for added effects in those blockbuster movies but also for creating the most realistic 3D humans.
You may be thinking how awesome it is that we are so close to creating something that looks like a real human but there's one problem - the "uncanny valley". It's a term used to describe the sense you get when you see something that looks nearly human, but just not quite.
Humans are pretty good at recognising other humans, and with the insanely realistic CGI these days it's becoming increasingly difficult to tell the difference between a real person and a CGI creation.
Japanese artists Teruyuki Ishikawa and Yuka Ishikawa AKA Telyuka embarked on a project last year to create an extremely realistic CGI schoolgirl named Saya. Their results were astounding. She's so realistic that during testing, she didn't give anyone the uncanny valley feeling.
Everything from her hair to the texture of her skin is ridiculously real.
Even her shoes look real
I think the fact that I'm not sensing uncanny valley is creeping me out even more as it means we are now venturing into the territory where robots will be able to take over. I know which side I'll be on when that day comes!
