Elon Musk's plan for world domination
Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, has just published the second part of his "masterplan" and it's fascinating.
He said Tesla would be branching out into creating a solar roof type product that people can have fitted to their homes. He also wants the Tesla electric cars to extend to other types of vehicles like buses and lorries. Amazingly, once the cars have full autonomous driving capability, Tesla has said it will allow owners to add their cars to a shared fleet, meaning the vehicles can be making money for their owners when they are not using them (erm, AI anyone?).
Elon Musk's life long ambition has been to "accelerate the advent of sustainable energy" and has said "We must at some point achieve a sustainable energy economy or we will run out of fossil fuels to burn and civilization will collapse.
"Given that we must get off fossil fuels anyway and that virtually all scientists agree that dramatically increasing atmospheric and oceanic carbon levels is insane, the faster we achieve sustainability, the better." I couldn't agree more!
Elon might have a hard time convincing people of his masterplan though, who has been recently criticized for the Tesla Autopilot feature which left one man dead. The self driving car involved is being investigated as to whether Autopilot was at fault after the software appeared to have failed to spot a lorry crossing it's path.
Elon was shocked by the incident but hit back at critics by saying "It would no more make sense to disable Tesla's Autopilot, than it would to disable autopilot in aircraft.
It is also important to explain why we refer to Autopilot as 'beta'. This is not beta software in any normal sense of the word. Every release goes through extensive internal validation before it reaches any customers.
"It is called beta in order to decrease complacency and indicate that it will continue to improve (Autopilot is always off by default). Once we get to the point where Autopilot is approximately 10 times safer than the US vehicle average, the beta label will be removed."
So there you have it guys, it's a pretty intense plan but one of which I am totally on board with. Sustainable energy is the only way forward. We simply cannot continue on this path, sucking up fossil fuels like parasites or there will be nothing left for out children. Elon Musk, I salute you sir!
