Elizabeth Banks to direct 'Cocaine Bear', the film inspired by true events

Actress and director Elizabeth Banks has announced that she will be directing a movie about a bear who goes on a massive cocaine binge. If you’re thinking that this sounds like the most ludicrous plot ever suggested, it’s actually based on a true story. I’m not even kidding.

The story is based on Kentucky's legendary "Cocaine Bear", affectionately known as Pablo EskoBear. Brilliant! He was a 175-pound black bear that died after eating 70 pounds of pure Colombian coke after it was thrown out of a plane by smugglers.

The original story dates back to 1985 where  around £12 million worth of coke was dropped out of a plane by drug smuggler Andrew Thornton. Andrew also happened to be a former lawyer and narcotics police officer, son of mega rich Kentucky horse breeders and a bit of a playboy. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.

Apparently Thornton had been on a cocaine-smuggling run from Colombia and was dropping parcels out of his plane in Georgia. However according to the Georgia FBI, Thornton somehow smacked his head trying to jump from the plane, leaving him concussed and unable to open his parachute. Obviously he plummeted to his death but the best part about all this is the outfit he was wearing when officers discovered his body - this mofo was dressed to impress in night vision goggles, a bullet proof vest and Gucci loafers. Gucci fucking loafers!!!

Authorities then discovered nine duffel bags full of cocaine. I think we all know what happened next - Pablo EskoBear turns up and finds a brimming bag of tasty treats. Let’s hope Elizabeth Banks does the film justice. Hopefully they’ll at least get the bear hopping round some strip clubs and living it up on the town before meeting his demise.
