Mum charged with neglect claims adopted 10-year-old is actually 22-year-old con-woman
A mum charged with neglect for abandoning her 10-year-old adopted daughter has made claims that the girl isn’t a kid at all, and is in fact a 22-year-old sociopath who pretended to be a child and tried to kill her. Yikes. It’s like plot of the movie The Orphan.
Kristine Barnett and her husband Michael, dumped their Ukrainian-born daughter Natalia Grace, who has dwarfism, in a flat in America and fled to Canada after the girl tried to kill them.
A doctor who examined Natalia back 2010 around the time she was adopted determined that she was eight-years-old, but in 2012 the Barnett’s legally changed her age to 22. Kristine claimed that her 3ft tall daughter Natalia threatened to stab her and her husband in their sleep, pushed her towards an electric fence and poured bleach in her coffee. Jesus! Here’s what Kristine had to say:
She would make statements and draw pictures saying she wanted to kill family members, roll them up in a blanket and put them in the backyard. She was standing over people in the middle of the night. You couldn't go to sleep. We had to hide all the sharp objects. I saw her putting chemicals, bleach, Windex something like that, in my coffee and I asked her, 'what are you doing?' She said, 'I am trying to poison you'.
During an interview, Kristine claimed Natalia was diagnosed as a psychopath and sociopath. Kristine said she didn’t neglect Natalia because Natalia is an adult and wasn’t a child when she was adopted. At the time of the adoption, Natalia was said to be as young as six but she had already started her period, had adult teeth and full pubic hair. Kristine also claimed that doctors examined Natalia and concluded that she was suffering from a psychological illness usually only diagnosed in adults and that the illness led to Natalia jumping out of moving cars and smearing blood over mirrors.
After the couple had Natalia’s age changed to 22 they rented an apartment in Indiana and left her there, which is why they’re now being charged with neglect. Y'know, because you can't just dump a kid. However, friends have jumped to the couples defence, with one friend saying the Barnett's were "scammed" into adopting the girl. She said:
Kristina just found out two weeks ago through the media that she's in trouble. She said there were two trials years ago to re-age the girl. It wasn't like its something the state doesn't know happened. She's very confused as to why all of this were to come up.
The friend said the girl had severe mental health issues when the Barnetts adopted her and that she had attached the family on many occasions. No one knows where Natalia is at the moment because she was evicted from the flat a few years ago but a woman who lived on the same street said she was friends with Natalia and that they had attended an adult learning centre together until one day Natalia stopped coming to class.
Wow. What a fucking weird story. My mind is blown. I Can't actually get my head around it. I was going to say this should be made into a movie but it already has. I might watch The Orphan tonight.
