Chris Rock set to reboot 'Saw' franchise

The original Saw movie was pretty epic back in the day. It was the first gritty torture-porn film of its kind and the introduction of the puppet was not only creepy but iconic, and put him up there with the likes of Freddy and Jason. But as with all good movies, there’s a finite amount of years in a franchise before shit just gets samey, which is what happened to Saw.

However, it looks like we’re in for something new and exciting as Chris Rock has just announced that he will be rebooting the franchise. Before you say ‘but he’s a comedian’, remember Jordan Peele came from a comedy background and Get Out was fucking brilliant.

Here’s what Lionsgate chairman Joe Drake said about the upcoming collaboration:

When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all in.
This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous Saw films. Chris conceived this idea and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise.

Damn. He sounds pretty confident. I’m expecting great things.
