Down with this sort of thing

Have Gucci done a racist with this 'blackface' jumper?

Those fashion guys and their crazy schemes.

"How about a jumper, but with a neck that pulls up to cover the bottom half of your face?  Nah don't worry, we'll cut out a hole.  That way people will still be able to use their mouths.  Could even add some lips.  Bit of a feature, like.  $900?"

Then someone goes away and makes a prototype.  It comes back.  A model tries it on...

Quite black and white minstrel, isn't it?  Gucci are calling the piece a 'balaclava polo neck' but if you had to categorise it, anoint it a vibe, would you go with paramilitary?  This is not the first thought that popped in to your head.

Racist then?  Sure, the vibe of this jumper is racist.

Someone really ought to have noticed.

Anyway, rather than treat us to a #makeyouthink statement pointing out how they were merely trying to start a discussion about culturally insensitive terrorists or whatever, the label instead responded by describing the controversy as “a powerful learning moment for the Gucci team”; adding that they "consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make."

Apart from that one decision which led to you selling a blackface jumper, amirite lads?

Following an almighty kick-off the offending article has now been withdrawn from sale, but that's not to say some haven't already been shipped.  Question is though, if you see one in the wild do you berate the wearer for their racism, or for being the sort of berk that drops the best part of $1,000 on a jumper that’s not even good?
