Jared Leto's Joker is getting a standalone movie!
Last year Warner Bros. and DC revealed that they were creating a Joker origin-story that would have nothing to do be Jared Leto's portrayal of the character. Obviously this made me and many other people pretty happy because Jared Leto's Joker was fucking horrendous. However, the studio can't seem to make up their mind and have decided to develop another standalone Joker film which will star Jared Leto.
According to sources, Leto is set to star and produce an the standalone film, which could also pave the way for future movies branching from Suicide Squad. There aren't any plot details yet but the studio's idea is to expand on the world created by Suicide Squad and tie into future instalments.
In Suicide Squad, The Joker appeared to die in a helicopter crash so your guess is as good as mine as to what direction the movie decides to go in. It could either be a backstory as to how the character wound up in Belle Reve Prison (which I would personally love) or it could be that he didn't die in that helicopter crash and we'll be seeing what happens to him while the Squad was battling the Enchantress. Who really knows at this point. I'm sure more details will emerge in the coming months.
