Reactions to 'Game of Thrones' bombshell-dropping 'Eastwatch' episode
This season of Game of Thrones is about as intense as it gets - we've seen dragons, family reuniting and epic battles. I'd actually go as far as to say it might be the best season to date!
I was expecting the lastest episode to be a bit slow in comparison to last weeks insane dragon destruction, but instead we got a fuckload of bomshells dropped on us. The first surprise being that Cersei is pregnant! By her brother Jaime obviously. The return of Gendry was a bit of a shock too; The sole surviving heir of Robert Baratheon made his comeback and seemed to be cosying up to Jon Snow. It was actually quite a cute meeting. Also there appeared to be quite a bit of tension between Arya and Sansa with Sansa not taking Arya's advice to randomly behead people.
Perhaps the biggest bomshell of all was Gilly's discovery while reading the diary of High Septon Maynard. Gilly asks Sam “What does annulment mean?” to which Sam responds in slight annoyance that it means a marriage comes to an end. Gilly asks because she is referring to someone called ‘Prince Rhaegar', who married someone else during a secret Dornish ceremony. This, for many, is huge news as this comment likely means that Daenerys’s brother, Rhaegar, annulled his first marriage to marry Lyanna Stark, Jon Snow’s mother. That would make Jon Snow a legitimate child, which changes the game entirely. With Jon Snow's legitimacy comes a whole host of benefits, one of which being that Jon now has a better claim to the throne than Daenerys. Also, because of the rules of Westeros and the fact that Jon is a legitimate Grandson of the Mad King, he would a better claim to the Iron Throne. Whoa! Mind fucking blown! I'm not the only one either, as Twitters reactions were off the hook.
I need to sit in a darkened room and contemplate this for a while. It's all a bit too much for me to take in.
