Down with this sort of thing

Was The Office inspired by this 1986 Ian Botham interview?

I'm gonna have to say yes.  There's too much Brent in here for it to be a coincidence.

Some choice quotes:

“If you want to change nappies, change nappies. It’s a free world. That’s why my father fought in the Second World War.”

“I’m an entertainer.”

“People don’t realise deer in this country there are more in this country now than there were in days of Henry VIII. Fact.”

“Corner dealers in drugs who give a young kid some marijuana [and] they they line it up with heroin inside it and the next thing you know you’ve got a kid chasing the dragon at 14.”

“I’ve been on a hill and i’ve had to chase a stag that’s got a nine inch cross bow bolt though its belly for two days.”

“If a man is black, green, yellow and blue spots and I like the guy I couldn’t give a stuff, it doesn’t matter where he comes from.”

And here's the full interview, with Botham getting grilled Question Time-style by an audience made up entirely of terrifying Scottish teenagers with shit banter.

Pretty awkward, but you've got to take the rough with the smooth with Beefy.  Yes he's hit the odd copper, yes he's enjoyed the old dooby, but will you piss off and leave him alone, he's walking to John O'Groats for some spastics!
